I was born in Lower Hutt, New Zealand in 1976 to English parents, both from London. I attended high school where at 15 I discovered the guitar & singing. In 1996 I moved to London to pursue a career in music, I worked through a variety of positions in music retail, then moved into record distribution, became a morning radio show host on a digital rock station, worked in PR, struggled as a roadie, dabbled in band & tour management.
In 2005 I applied to attend university and began studying to become a secondary school music teacher and after 10 years in London started my first real band. Whilst studying the band began playing shows around London, then in 2007 I secured my first fulltime teaching position whilst still rehearsing & playing shows. After completing my first year of full time teaching I resigned and focused solely on the band. We toured around parts of England, France & Belgium and in 2009 released out own self financed album.
In true rock and roll fashion within 6 months of the albums release the band had broken up. But in that same brief window of time I had met my wife, and had started working at a secondary school in Bethnal Green with a music department that has been nationally recognized as a leader in music education.
As my wife is Canadian we got legally married in 2010 at a registrar’s office in Ottawa, Canada. We then celebrated our marriage with a ceremony with friends and family in Guadalajara Mexico, celebrating my wife’s mixed French Canadian & Mexican heritage.
Music is the biggest influence in my life and after learning to play the guitar I’ve also learnt the bass, piano & drums. I love all kinds of music but my heart is wrapped up in rock, metal & punk music.
love food and I’ve been a vegetarian for the last 9 years. I’ve become much more interested in how food gets to my table and the environmental impact it has. I’m a member of Greenpeace & I strongly believe in adopting a stronger awareness of the environmental issues the planet faces as well as a shift towards a permaculture lifestyle.
I love all things sci-
My wife and I love to travel, we have family in Canada, Mexico & New Zealand and more recently I have discovered a new personal challenge, to visit the 10 oldest trees in the world. We started last year visiting the second oldest living tree, the Olive Tree of Vouves in Crete.
