My name is Jane Hill and a member of UK Society of Celebrants. I am the lead funeral celebrant of Memoria Matters, based in Ely, Cambridgeshire.
Why use a civil Funeral Celebrant? Using a Celebrant is becoming a popular and realistic alternative to Clergy, of whatever denomination, to conduct funeral services. For all those in our society with no connection with a specific religion, place of worship or clergy, having a civil funeral ceremony is a fitting choice to make.
Memoria Matters ceremonies are not, however, ‚ÄòHumanist‚’ and can include elements of worship, if that is your wish, or none at all. It is your choice entirely.
So, why did I choose to become a Funeral Celebrant? After many years in business and then teaching, I wanted a complete change of vocation. I have always been a ‚Äòpeople person‚’ so it was important to continue along a path which involved interaction with others. The thought of becoming a Funeral Celebrant had been niggling at the back of my mind for several years before I finally took the plunge and signed up for the UKSOC training. I like making others feel better and I believe that this is something that a good Celebrant can do on the occasion of the bereavement and funeral of a loved one.
Over the years I have been to funerals of my own near and dear. Some were uplifting experiences: full of love, respect and compassion. Humour, even! They were enriching and considerate, and an important part of the healing process for those left behind. By contrast, others have been cold affairs, short on empathy, lacking in understanding and human kindness. Not, in my view, helping those who are grieving ‚Äòfeel better‚’ in any way at all!
How can I help you at this time of loss? My purpose is simple. It is to give my clients, together with their family, friends, and the loved one who has died, the support they need, and to provide the best and most sensitive possible funeral experience at this difficult time.
Every Memoria Matters ceremony is bespoke: individually tailored to meet the wishes of the closest relatives and associates. You and your family or friends can take part as much or as little as you wish. Or, if you prefer, you can leave it all to me and, together with your appointed Funeral Director, I will create a ceremony which reflects both the family‚’s wishes and the character and life of the deceased.
Please contact me, by message or phone, and we can have an initial discussion about your requirements. I look forward to hearing from you.
