My name is Debbie Hugill and as your Funeral Celebrant I will help you to shape your loved one‚'s farewell ceremony by learning about their personality, beliefs and values and, if previously discussed, their thoughts regarding what type of funeral they had considered.
You, other family members and friends will be able to participate as much or as little as wished and if things get too much on the day of the funeral I will take over or help you to continue.
I have spent a number of years living and working overseas and been involved in charity work since my early 20‚'s. I am now settled back in the UK and live on the Cambridgeshire / Bedfordshire border with my husband and we have two daughters who live and work in London and Cambridge.
I feel I have a natural ability to reach out to those in need and a strong empathy for the bereaved having experienced the loss of close family members and also close friends throughout my life. I totally understand how painful it is to lose a loved one. I lost my father when I was 28 and then my mother just three years later. Up until that time I had had no idea how hard the devastating blow hits when someone close to you dies. We all need to grieve in our own different ways and understanding from others is so important at such sad times. Hopefully, with time, the raw grief lessens and the fond memories and fun loving times come flooding back.
My belief is that it is so important that your loved one‚'s funeral is conducted in exactly the way you and the family want it. I have attended funerals in the past when I have often thought that perhaps the family was not given enough choice for their ceremony and various influences have often taken over. This should not happen and this is why I so wanted to become a funeral celebrant.
I will work closely with you and liaise with your Funeral Director to sensitively assess your wishes and plans to create a ceremony which your loved one would be proud of. You can have as much or as little religious content as you wish - the choice is entirely yours and I will do my very best to honour your wishes and help you to produce a memorable celebration of your loved one‚'s life.
