My name is Dayna Shiels and I have lived in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire my entire life. I was raised by my grandparents on the exceptional values that have made me the person I am today.

Throughout my life I have done a lot of volunteering with disabled adults and children which has provided me with a non-judgemental attitude towards people from all walks of life. I am also currently doing a night course in counselling to further enhance my skills. Although I am younger than most celebrants offering services this does not hinder my ability.

I have faced many challenging things in my short life which has meant I had to mature quicker than most people. I have spoken in parliament on two occasions with one being televised meaning I understand the importance and strength of speaking to a crowd. Therefore, ensuring that every word is as important as the next and heard spoken clearly.

I began to feel myself leaning towards training as a celebrant when my grandfather who was like a father to me passed away very suddenly. The celebrant we contacted sent us a copy of the ceremony that included details from other clients making us feel very nervous towards the service.

A celebrant should ensure that every funeral is delivered with an exceptional amount of dedication and care. A month later I attended a wedding ceremony that was completely created by the bride and groom. They met with a celebrant and created a ceremony entirely around them. The happiness it brought into the ceremony was unlike any wedding I had ever been to. Therefore, I decided to train as a celebrant hoping that I too could bring happiness to family ceremonies. I am also dedicated to ensuring any funeral I conduct is done with grace, empathy, and exceptional standards.
