Helen Wilson | Funeral Celebrant

Hi I’m Helen and I am a funeral celebrant in Lancashire at Heart and Soul Celebrants. I am based in Preston and cover the Lancashire area from Galgate to Chorley and Lytham to Blackburn.

I became a celebrant as I love talking to people and listening to their stories. Having life experience allows me to show understanding and empathy as I have experienced loss and bereavement myself so know the path that my clients are starting upon. My natural affinity with others enables me to put them at ease and help them to share their memories and guide them towards creating the ceremony right for their loved one.

Being a spiritual person, I believe in a higher power, which some people call God others the universe. Though my work in education I have a good knowledge of many of the major world religions and their belief systems and rites and rituals around death. I am also a reiki master so believe in the power of universal energy to heal, calm and centre others to help during times of grief and loss.

Going to the gym and weight training regularly, I like to stay fit as it is good for both the body and mind. I also enjoy getting outside walking, hiking and running and love to travel to different places both in the U.K and abroad: having adventures is what life is all about. In addition, musical theatre, comedy, cinema and dancing are things I enjoy, not forgetting quizzing and reading.

I spent many years working in education, retail and hospitality so gained many people skills which I can bring to the role.

Making sure families feel supported and confident that my tailor-made ceremonies celebrate individuality and honour the lives of their loved one. Supporting families and giving guidance to help them to make clear, informed choices and allowing flexibility to ensure a heartfelt and personal tribute.

Telling a story is one of my strengths. It is important to me that the life of the deceased is honoured to the fullest and the family have the ceremony their loved one would have wanted. A funeral is a celebration of life and I want to foster trust with my clients, that I will provide a ceremony of the highest quality showing every facet of each individual and honouring their memory.

I am warm, personable and caring and do all in my power to show compassion, and help bereaved families through this difficult heartbreaking time and bring them together. I thrive on building these connections with families and want them to feel heard and comfortable sharing with me.

An important part of my role is creating a personalised ceremony which is a vivid expression of a life lived. Collaboration is key and I want to create a space where grief and joy can co-exist, where clients can remember happy times with loved ones and revisit memories which they can cherish forever.

Bespoke ceremonies can be created which are religious or secular/humanist, I am here to bring warmth and balance, thoughtful presence with meaningful moments and heart. I can provide ceremonies for different religions which are customised to particular faiths rites and customs.
