Funeral Celebrant in Sheffield

Welcome, thank you for taking the time to read my page.
My name is Howard, and I live in a village in Northeast Derbyshire with my wonderful wife and our three children. Although my children are grown up, we still enjoy doing many things together as a family, not forgetting also our pet dog. We are fortunate to live so close to the beautiful Peak District where we spend time whenever possible.

What sparked my interest in becoming a funeral Celebrant?
Over the past sixteen years I have been working in the care sector, organising, and running activities in a day centre setting for adults with profound learning disabilities. Eight years ago, I became a project manager trying to develop that service. Through the years I have met many great people who have used the service and their families. This has helped me develop my listening skills, particularly with people who find it difficult to verbally communicate. When people meet me, they often tell me that I am easy to talk to, and always show empathy and compassion. These qualities are a must for a funeral celebrant, as at these sad times, we all need treating with great care, a listening ear and a non-rushed approach is so important.

A funeral ceremony should be a memorable celebration of someone’s life. It should reflect their unique personality and be a fitting and professional tribute that will help family and friends grieve. This is a special time for all to celebrate and to remember a special life. So, with my interest ignited I set about finding some training and support. I chose The United Kingdom Society of Celebrants and found their training to be stimulating and practical. The course has really helped me to hone in on skills I have and to be able to put theses to good use. I am proud to be a member.

To paint a written portrait.
To be able to paint a written portrait of your loved one, we will need to meet together. Feel free to invite your family and friends. In this way we can craft a bespoke ceremony with the elements you would like, perhaps readings, poems, favourite music, and photographs, this is a way of offering comfort to the bereaved, in this way you will receive a farewell ceremony that you deserve. A face-to-face meeting is always preferable, at a place you feel comfortable with, and at a time that is convenient to you. There is also the option of meeting over video conferencing, Zoom or Skype if during these pandemic times you feel more comfortable with this. After our meeting, I will then write up a first draft to share together and give you the opportunity to make any adjustments you feel necessary. You will then receive the final draft for your approval. I will liaise with your funeral director and work closely with you to create a unique ceremony that is dignified, sensitive and sincere. After the funeral I will send you a printed copy of the ceremony, for you to keep.
