Hello my name is Carole; I am the mother of two grown up sons and proud grandmother to two lovely boys aged 15 and 10.

I was born in my grandmothers pub in a small mining village in Co Durham and have lived in this area ever since. Sadly the village and needless to say the pub is now gone and has been replaced by a golf course which makes me feel a little sad every time I pass but I do have some very happy memories of my childhood there. I take enormous pride in the heritage of both the county and the City of Durham and try to visit the countryside and the Cathedral as often as possible.

I started my working life at County Hall in the Durham County Library Service then moved to a small branch which I loved as it gave me the opportunity to talk to other book lovers and introduce children to the authors who had fascinated me as a child.

Once family came along I wanted to spend more time with my sons so took a part-time job as a warden for a group of bungalows housing the elderly; again very rewarding and I became the recipient of some very wise words and even more hilarious tales.

Since that time I have followed the family tradition of my Great Grandmother, Grandmother and Mother and assumed the mantle of pub landlady and discovered why they are never short of an anecdote or funny saying. You do see all life and meet some real characters and I am grateful to them all for the life experience and good friends I gained.

More recently I went back to college to do a counselling course and began working with a small charity. We supported the carers and families of drug and alcohol misusers and wherever possible facilitate entry into treatment services.

I love to read and am particularly fond of novels with an historical subject such as Hilary Mantell and Bernard Cornwell. History and archaeology also feature strongly in my choice of travel destinations.  Last year I toured the Holy Land where I indulged myself in the rich Roman, Crusader and Biblical past.

Traveling to India was a real high point and the memories of the magical sights and beautiful people will stay with me always. It was here that I learned about therapeutic laughter yoga and saw groups of people practising it in the park. On my return I was lucky enough to find teachers who were willing to train me to be a laughter yoga leader and help me understand the power of happiness. This led me to investigate other forms of alternate therapy and I am now a qualified Reiki practitioner which has been extremely beneficial to my clients and myself.

I consider myself spiritual rather than religious and embrace any process that allows us to make that connection. It’s my belief that possessing spiritual resources helps to heal grief and enhance our feelings of joy.
