Funeral Celebrant in Cheshire

Hello, my name is Alison, and I am a Funeral Celebrant in Cheshire, covering the Tameside area of Greater Manchester and the surrounding areas, Glossop, Stockport, Oldham.

I am proud have trained with the United Kingdom Society of Celebrants and to be a member. During the many funerals I have attended in my life, I felt some of the ceremonies could have been about anyone, whereas some were a true celebration of the person’s life. I feel that as every person is unique, and in order to respect and honour them, every ceremony should be unique too.

As a Funeral Celebrant I can make an appointment to meet you and chat about your loved one. We can talk about what made them special, their character, interests, achievements and talk about any funny stories and fond memories.

Family members or friends are welcome at our meeting if that is what you would like. We can discuss any ideas you may have and whether you would like any readings, poems, music, and personal touches. Sometimes family members or friends would like to recite poems or deliver readings or to talk about their memories. It’s your choice whether you would like to include any prayers or religious content or not have any at all.

I will liaise with your funeral director to provide the ceremony that you require. All this can be put together to create an individual, dignified, and meaningful ceremony to reflect the wishes of the deceased and the family and friends who will be attending. I will write the story of your loved one’s life (or the parts that you would like to share) and send it to you to make sure you are happy with everything. It will give you a chance to make any adjustments if you feel that any are needed. After the ceremony I will give you a copy for you to keep.

I do understand, at this very sad time that it might seem daunting for a stranger to come into your home and ask lots of questions about your loved one, you may feel very unsure about what kind of ceremony you would like. Please don’t worry, I am here to support and guide you, from the first phone call, through our meeting, with readings and poetry ideas (if needed) and during the ceremony, to ensure that your loved one has a send-off that tells their story and honours and celebrates their life.

I have always worked with people, from many different walks of life, in my different roles and have been told that I am easy to talk to, open minded, caring, professional, respectful and feel that I am flexible, organised and have good communication skills. People and their stories and lives have always interested me, I have been doing my family history for a few years now and have visited quite a lot of places that play a big part in my history.

I live with my husband; we have 2 grown up children and a tankful of tropical fish. As well as family history I enjoy reading, music and attending live gigs, going out on day trips, (especially to the seaside and having fish and chips) and nights out.

Photography is another great passion, as is seeing new things and beautiful places. I also enjoy reading, painting, and crafting. Spending time with family and friends is something I treasure greatly. I think my favourite way to spend my time is being on holiday with loved ones…. we are lucky to live in such a beautiful country, but I also like to see other parts of this big world too. I particularly enjoy going away in our ‘holiday home on wheels’ also known as the caravan!
