My name is Judith Gudgeon. I live in Malvern, Worcestershire with my husband, Stephen, who is an Officer in the Merchant Navy. We have been married for 36 years and have three grown up daughters.

I am retiring in December 2016 after 35 years of teaching, managing and leading in Special Schools in Essex, York and Worcester. Over the years, I have worked with children and adults, their families and other professionals to support and enhance the learning and living environment for children, young people and adults who have learning difficulties often together with other disabilities, physical and health needs. I have undertaken a variety of training opportunities including coaching and mentoring; Safeguarding and Child Protection; Makaton and Signalong Signing; and School Finance and Governance.

Since my school days, I have been an enthusiastic musician. Over the years, I have been keen to learn instruments including trombone, saxophone and harp but my strength lies in my piano playing and I still regularly lead school assemblies. My ability to play the piano has enabled me to support and help many other people from page turning at concerts; accompanying at concerts and exams; and playing for weddings and other services.

I am a keen runner and, having taken up running in my early fifties, I have completed four marathons and several half-marathons for children’s charities. I find running helps me to contemplate, focus and put into perspective what life can demand of me on a daily basis. It helps me to think clearly about what is important and what needs to be tackled as well as keeping me physically fit!

I began to travel worldwide with my husband aboard his ships until we started our family. Although we continued to holiday in the UK and abroad, it is only recently that I have been able to extend my travel opportunities, visiting India, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, in order to really soak up the local culture and atmosphere.

My recent personal experiences of helping to organise family occasions, including weddings and funerals, has made me reflect on how life’s important ceremonies should support and help families come together and share those key values of love, friendship, tolerance, caring and peace.

I can assure you of my undivided personal support and attention at your celebration and together I know that we shall plan a memorable and poignant ceremony.
