Funeral Celebrant in Bath

Hello: and thank you for looking at my profile. My name is Jill - I am a funeral celebrant based in Bath and operating across the South West of England. I hope that what I say here will make you feel that we could work well together to create the right ceremony for you and your family. When I was a teenager, my grandfather died. At his funeral, I was upset that the person who was standing up there speaking about him clearly didn’t know him at all. They could have been talking about anyone, not the man I knew: with his stories of the First World War, his grumpy mornings, his twinkly laugh, his best friend Bert, his skill at playing chess and how he met my Grandma in a Lancashire cotton factory. I wanted his funeral to be about him as a person during his life, not just about his death. When I set out to train as a funeral celebrant, I thought of that day: and I am determined that no one else at a funeral should feel the way I did all those years ago. At a time of real difficulty and suffering for a family, I believe it is important to find a way to acknowledge the real person to whom they are preparing to say goodbye; because, warts and all, every single one of us has made our mark in this world and, when we leave it, people will miss us and remember us. Getting through life can be a tough old business, exciting and exhausting in equal measure. We deserve to celebrate our successes and share what we’ve learned from things that didn’t work out so well. With a sensitive and respectful approach, I can help you and your family to say exactly what you want people to know about the person whose life you have come together to commemorate

Working closely with families, I create personal, bespoke ceremonies which can include specific, relevant and special moments, memories and tributes. As a secular celebrant, I am not bound by traditional ceremonial rites or content (although we can include such elements if that is what families would like). The funeral ceremony I help you to create will be about the person to whom you must say goodbye, in the way that you want to say it. In short, it will be personal to you, and personal to them. I have spent the whole of my professional life in the arts and theatre: specialising in community work, and encouraging people to tell their stories in a creative way. Personally, I have volunteered in food banks and as a school Governor, and have served on various charity boards. I have raised two children (including emigrating with them as teenagers to the USA for five years), lost both parents, been married and divorced. With a few other big life events along the way, my experience makes me a good listener, which is essential to being able to stand up and speak on a family's behalf. Being a funeral celebrant is a very special privilege. You can trust me to ask the right questions, listen carefully to the answers, and guide your choices as we devise the ceremony. I will write a respectful, detailed and truthful script, and I will deliver it on the day, supporting your chosen speakers if necessary. I deliver funeral ceremonies in the Bath, Somerset, Wiltshire, South Gloucestershire and Dorset areas. I would be delighted to meet you, listen to you and help you to say a good goodbye to your loved one.
